It's been a rather odd start to summer 2018. First the rain and unrelenting cold weather of May and June which delayed planting and all garden work, and now the heat, humidity and absolute lack of rain causing further set backs. All of us who work on and with the land are struggling to encourage everything to grow, or at least survive until the heat and drought abate. Still, there are plants who's tenacity and ability to flourish is impressive! The lilies are blooming, the daylilies are just beginning their show-off parade of colour, and we've got lettuce and peas to feast on in July - not too shabby!
The garden offers some peaceful spots to escape the heat and the frenzy of July (you know - that frantic feeling that we have only a few short weeks to squeeze everything we possibly can out of summer!) Take some time for a "lazy" stroll, or a quiet sit in a garden - yours or ours (or both!).
Yes, summer is short and to be treasured.
HERE'S SEEING YOU!
A special thank you to Bryton, Mark and Sandra for bringing their beautiful birds of prey to Earthbound last weekend and sharing their knowledge and love of these magnificent birds with so many of you. We hope to have them back in August for a return visit and maybe some flight demonstrations. Stay tuned for updates.

"That's what I should have done instead of transplanting the phlox. Their roots were tough, and I could never find the proper place to put them, the proper place to show them off. White phlox up against a white fence, it never worked. I should have painted the fence blue."
