Every Summer Solstice -STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE FOR SUPPER! It was a break from the "eat your supper first, then desert" house rule and one that made every kid (age didn't matter!) rejoice that summer had indeed arrived. Ahead stretched long days of lying on our backs in the sun, counting butterflies and listening the the lazy buzz of the bees.
I wish this delight to all of us, but especially our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Earth Bound we're constantly asking ourselves what WE can do to ensure that future. There are many small actions that each of us can take everyday to help preserve and enhance that which will otherwise be lost.
Plant a bee friendly garden, grow milkweed, be tolerant of insects in the garden, stay away from insecticides and weed controls that harm. It's not that difficult.
The week of June 20th - 27th is National Pollinator week. Take some time to have a look at some of the great ideas out there (www.pollinationguelph.ca).
Want to make your garden a friendly place for bees, butterflies and other pollinators? Don't forget to provide a shallow water feature with landing space. A pan with water and a few stones works fine (don't forget to change the water daily!)
